Well, I recently dug up some photos of me when I was collecting in MA. This was a couple of years ago.

Well, here is my friend Nigel trying to net some sunnies. It was really hard because we used butterfly nets and the sunnies were so damn fast (and the pond was so damn big lol)

We took turns with the net. While he was trying to net some sunnies, I took a rod because I saw a 6 inch pike dart around. But after casting out my piece of worm, I caught something else.... SNAPPING TURTLE!! Here is a pic of me dragging it in (you can't really see it)

After that, my friend wanted to take a break. I bent over and tried to steal a lilly plant but the leaves came off too easily. I felt a funny round rock near a lilly and pulled it out. It was a huge 3 inch freshwater mussel/clam. I put it in a bag and kept fishing around with the net.

Eventually, I caught a sunny (I think it was a green) and put that in the bag too. Pic below:

After that, a group of geese swam in a tight formation towards me... One of them walked up and started honking at me like I stole his children or something lol. Pic Below:

Then, I took them home and put them into my severum tank. The mussel/clam released little "clamlets" and they latched onto the gills of my severum so I had to get fluke meds. (I took out the clam and put it in its own tank before medicating) The sunny was healthy nd ate bloodworms. It eventually died of pop-eye.

Do you still have the sev and clam thing? Recent pics would be nice.

You should learn how to use a seine and cast net as they are by far more productive at catching fish! Another neat trick is tie empty coke cans together and sink them. Wait a couple days and come back and poor them out and its possible madtoms will take up residence in the can and you can catch him!

I don't see a spot near the tail and the shape of hte fish doesn't look very much like a bluegill... but it does have stripes which is usually only found on male bluegills....

I have no idea lol. I'll trust you and say its a bluegill lol. There were pople catching some pretty nice sized bluegills in that pond. Oh BTW, its Houghton's Pond in Milton, Massachusetts. Its in the Blue Hills Reservation. (great hiking and great wild blueberries at the top of Big Blue)
