I was wondering if anyone could point me in the direction of a distributor for collection supplies. I am trying to start a new tank of local catches and have seen tropical importers and divers with bags and containers that they use to safely catch and transport the specimens while diving does anyone know where I could obtain some of these supplies?

I'm not a diver so I really don't know where to direct you other than a local dive shop. Please, make sure that you don't have to get special permits to capture live fish in your state! You do in mine and the fines are huge also, be careful as to what you catch you want to know your fish very well so as not to violate cities etc.
hth and let us know what you find out man

I second what Max said.

Other than that, the best thing to transport "small" fish in are coolers. They hold temp very well and are easy to move around. I'd make sure to have an airstone on them once you put animals in the water. To get teh fish, nets work just fine. Check http://www.aquaticeco.com/index.cfm/fuseaction/listings.subsections/sid/14 for a host of different nets you might want to look at.

I appreciate the help guys a friend of mine has an importers license and I am a strong believer in the CITES regulations. I actually am studying to be a marine biologist with a minor in administration of justice. I don't really have an idea of what I can get. I know there are seahorses in the Chesapeake bay during the Summer. I also am planning on going down to the keys over spring break and see what I can come up with. Mostly I'm just out for inverts. Hermit crabs and shrimp and such. The fish will come must later Im just as happy buying and keeping CB specimens.

I think Ive seen what look to be heavy duty plastic zipper bags with holes that allow you to collect specimens and keep water flow going while you continue to collect. I think I may try the dive shop back home.
