Ok, on saturday, I'm going to go and catch some pike, bluegills, minnows and other sunfish. (remember in te other thread how I had that bluegill?? I'm going back to that same pond. They swim so close to shore)

I'm gonna put them into my 75 gallon tank (no heater at the moment... has a couple of guppies in there to make sure the cycle is still going)

I'm gonna buy a throw net tomorrow.

I would invest in a dipnet rather then a cast net, dipnets are a lot more easy and versitile. I'm not a big fan of cast nets, all I ever caught with mine was a dead muskrat.

You might also want to look into a minnow trap. Fill it with catfood or chicken and you should get various minnows, small sunfish and other species. It's the lazy man's collecting took of choice.

yeah a minnow trap or a dip net is the way to go try putting an onion in the minnow trap it works really well and stays in the trap better

The fish in this pond are too smart for a minnow trap. I tried a minnow trap with a nightcrawler tied to it with a piece of fishging line. If I throw a whole nightcrawler into the water, they eat it realyl fast. But if I put it in the trap, they won't go near it (THEY ARE SMART I TELL YOU!!)

I tried using a butterfly net last time but it kept bending out of shape. Now I bought a trout net and a large green aquarium net. I'll try those out too.

A throw net is prety useful. the fish swim clsoe to shore (but the shore is curved the wrong way so I can't corner them)

Well, I'm off to buy a throw net now.

if you go to a garden market that sells pond stuff, you can get a koi net, they are pretty good

A worm in a minnow trap won't work, go with some of the other stuff, particularly stuff that's smelly. When a worm hits the water they locate it mostly based on site but it a trap they might not be able to locate it as well.

The way to do it is set the minnow trap as soon as you get there and leave it the entire time you are there. Just put it a little away from where you are fishing.

I always take my minnow trap with me if I am going to be near a body of water for any period of time, or sometimes if I am just passing one. I always put some catfood in it and leave it sit. I mostly get bluegill, pumpkinseed, golden shiners, bluntnose minnows and creek chubs.
