Have always wondered...if looking at a map, where are the various collection areas for the different ray species? Anyone have a map of these areas? Leos, Hens, Flowers, Pearls, MM, Hysterix, ect... I know S.A. is a huge area, just amazes me that so many various species of rays.

Flowers are venuzualia ,Columbia ,brazil, probably close to the boarders of each country

Leopoldi are exclusive to the rio xingu river in brazil

Hens are from tocantins river in brazil

Motoro are very diverse species found pretty much from Suriname to Argentina/Paraguay and from Columbia to brazil.

Pearls I believe also to be from the xingu river but I may stand corrected on this ray.

Hystrix are from brazil also I think in many areas very wide spread throughout out. Apparently they reproduce fast so are aloud for exportation. Alot of the brown/ white rays are not aloud for export in brazil

This Is a topic that I've been doing alot of research on. I'm very interested in locations too.

lets all take a field trip!!! i would love to be able to handpick my rays ;-) good info i was also wondering the same. i think there are a few transhippers and wholesalers on here that know a lot about where each ray is from... ill talk to john at eczs he knows his **** hes been transhipping/ importing fish and rays for 35 years.

Pearls are found in the Rio Tapajos Brasil.

Thats what I was hoping to see. Would be even cooler if some one could take a map (maybe a little bigger) like that and color in the collection rivers for the various species so we could see if and where they connect to each other.

Looks like there are rays from one end of S.A. to the other:headbang2 There must be many species we havent even seen yet.

I tried to put the rays that have a collection river listed as close to that river as I could. Once we get a nice rough draft with all the ray species filled in I wouldn't mind snazzing it up a little :)
