hey everyone, im new to the forum. I am a college student who is about 3-4 hours away from home. I was thinking of using a rubbermaid roughneck container to house a fish in. I tried this before with some cheaper plastic boxes and they bow like crazy but I hear that roughneck ones are the sturdiest so has anyone go advice on this for me?

When transporting back and forth, I have a 5-gallon container and an AC Inverter for my car. If I leave the heater and filtration running while transporting, will my filter lose all of its beneficial bacteria?

You wont lose your bacteria even if you dont keep them running. You may go through a little bit of a mini cycle but it shouldnt kill your fish as long as you keep the filter material moist. And for 3-4 hours I wouldnt use a heater. Maybe just some heating pads. I say that just because of the risk of the fish flipping out and breaking the heater. Also I would say the rubbermaids are fine for fish tanks. Go for it.

Destroying my filtration system every time I move back home was my biggest concern. I still want to have the heater and filter running just because I am paranoid like that and since I do have an AC inverter already. As for the heater, I wasn't too concerned with it breaking if I am careful with its placement. I'm curious though, what kind of heating pad are you talking about?

fine for a litte while they will bow and break eventually unless you get an agricultural rubbermaid i have a 150 gallon rubbermaid but they make smaller stock tanks try one of these you will never worry about a leak with one of these

I was looking to get a 40-50 gallon container. I wanted it to be strong enough to not bow while being filled 3/4 the way without any support. Are roughnecks strong enough to handle that? I really like those stock tanks but they cost a bit more than I wanted to spend. Thanks for your help guys.

I have used a 2x4 frame for even cheaper quality 44g tubs than rubber maid, the frame is just a wooden collar on four legs long enough to hold it up to just below the lip. works great and realy helps if someone bumps it.

Check at a farm supply store for a stock tank.... much studier than the rubbermaid stuff you can get else where (still made by rubber maid, but meant to sit in the sun and be abused by horses,e tc)

I dont know about how a pond would work, but we had a pool in our room. We threw a party and it was awesome until some girl with heels punctured it. Gee ampus security sure did love that gag
