Any college students with tanks on here. i'm heading off to college soon and was wondering how fish tanks plus dorms plus dorm mates turns out. I wanted to get my Oscar a bigger tank, (and even potentially use him as a chick magnet :) ) but I think the dorm may be too small or I might have other problems. Will I be stuck with a 2-gallon betta tank? Tell me what you guys think/have done....

I'm a full time college student with fish.

But then again, I'm also a full time employee who works no less than 48 hours a week and a father of a five month old. Somehow I don't think I'm in a position to give you the advice you're looking for lol

Wait do you live in a dorm with a Goonch and Goliath?????????

first thing you need to do is verify your dorm rules. some don't allow aquariums at all, some limit the gallons.

You have to ask yourself how will you transport the fish and tank when the semester ends.

Holy s***!! You do all that AND you're a mod on here?! Do you not know how to have fun and enjoy life? Haha I'm kidding, but that's a lot of stuff. I don't see how you can get sleep especially since you have a 5 month old.

My dorms at the UC wouldn't allow any fish tanks or pets, but that didn't stop a few of my friends from buying 2-3g betta tanks... there was one girl with a dachshund too, and my gf and I bought a pet rabbit that we hid under the bed during inspections lol. I would check your school's policy tho because i can't picture them allowing a tank larger than 10g, if anything. My apartment only allows 10g tanks but I have over 500g in here now, so there's ways to bend the rules if you're willing to accept the potential consequences (in this case eviction or major water damage)
