Ok I've just started college. I am going to a culinary arts school in ohio. and I'm wondering where people are getting there funds for school

I got all my pell grants b/c I am a displaced auto industry worker. and I got a nice chunk for stafford loans but I still have about 2K That I have to pay out of pocket.

I applied for extra student loans through wells-fargo but I was denied b/c I have an outstanding medical bill on my credit. From a emergency room visit after I lost my insurance. and b/c of that well-fargo will not give my a loan of any amount even with a cosigner.

I also applied at my local job and family services for WIA and I was approved for the program but I was told that my schooling choice is not covered in with them b/c you do not need a degree to work in a kitchen.

The WIA place also has a transportation program which will cover up to 10 bucks a day in gas for every day you drive to school (which I need b/c I drive 135 miles a day) but I was also denied that b/c My g/f makes to much money. They did not take into consideration debt/income ratios or the fact that we have a child. They just said that I couldn't be in that program b/c my household (b/c of my g/fs income) makes to much money.

So for the people who have went to school or are curently going to school where did you get any assistance beyond what I have already tried?

Army's G.I. Bill....

I have 50K to use, and never used it yet.

Perhaps find a job that pays under the table? Like bar tending or waiter?

yeah the only free money to get is pell grants... outside of that I have to pay for my schooling out of pocket. Most get funds from scholarships they have earned or govt pell grants. At least thats how it is here.

i had pell grants, cal grants and loans. i came from low income family. I owed 15K in loans for my associates degree

because my grades were good, my bachelors was free, it was approx 11K, but the grants covered it all.

it pays in the end if you are from a low income family and study hard. and not be a loser and waste your life away

When I was in college they had a program where I could work on campus for some crappy rate and all of the money I earned went towards schooling. I think I had to make 2k per year. The jobs were easy. I can't remember what it was called but we were known as student workers.

Perhaps that could help? Otherwise all my money for school came from scholarships and loans.

You could sell drugs... thast pretty profitable! lol just kidding but if you can you should look for any kind of wedding catering service. they pay really good money and are really flexible with hours and is a great college job.

go back and reapply.. this time dont list yer girlfriends income... if you are not married you do not have to account for the other persons income...

my gfs lower income qualifies us for a lower utilities and such..
