Is it normal for convicts to lose much of their coloration when they have fry?
My male convict seemed to have lost all his blue and yellow hues in his fins.

Also, I think that my convict pair are not taking care of the brood well. They don't keep the brood together and they just let them swim around like they don't see them. The fry are 2 weeks old btw.

Males tend to lose their bars when spawning and it's common for most cichlids to alter their appearance while raising fry. Are there other fish in the tank with them. When they're alone they'll usually let the fry explore a larger area.
I wouldn't worry too much unless the parents are letting the fry get eaten by tankmates. Convicts are great parents.

Oh, that makes sense. Thanks!:D The previous con pair I had was over protective though. They chase my finger away even through the glass. The new parents are smart, they seem to know that I can't hurt the fry through the glass and doesn't even bother checking at my fingers when I put it on the glass near the the fry.

Thanks again! :)

One last question, how long will I have to wait before I can tell which of the fry are leucistic and which are normal cons? The pair is composed of a leucistic female and a normal male con.
