A while ago I had a cichlid that was given to me by a friend because even though he was very small, he had killed or battered everyone else in his tank. He looked like a flowerhorn. Kind of greyish tan with red eyes. A few pale darker bands. Not much of a looker. Over a short time he turned pale. Almost white.No bands. Then almost overnight he got black blotches. Large spots. One on his lips and one on the tip of his tail. Then the black went away and he became solid pale yellow. A few months later and he looked like a full blown, bright orange red devil or midas. I've heard about color fading fish, but no other stories like this. The fish died and I have no photos. It became exciting waiting to see his full, adult colors. How normal is this? What was it?
