i am in the construction business and on a job site they were dredging a canal. i rescued a red crawdad/crayfish from certain death. it turned out she had eggs so i goggled care and breading put her in her own tank did the justation thing and wala 100 babies some blue and some red the ones i put in my 60 gallon tank stayed blue but the ones i put in my outside crawdad tank all turned red does anyone have any idea why.

I've had a similar experience where I purchased some crays with the intent on feeding them to some fish and keeping others as cleaners. One tank was my higher pH African cichlid tank. The other was my SA cichlid tank. In the SA tank the crays stayed redish. In the african tank, when they molted they turned blue.

Note they were very small when added to the African tank and there were a lot of caves so I rarely saw them until night. So who knows, but my theory was that either the salt or the higher pH had something to do with the color morph.

Depends there are a few different species of cray fish and a few color varients to add to the mix i've seen them from orange/redish to blueish to brown and also a few greenish ones it seems what there eating Temperature and PH affect there color in some way
