This may be a total novice question, but i never got around to answering it. Why is it, than when i turn on the lights in the morning, all the plecos are tan to light brown, but after a little while, they become their normal chocolate selves
Color changing pleco?

It's natural and normal. They change their colors to reflect their environment and even mood. Almost a lot of fish do that.
