I have 2 sens 1 is 5 inches and the other is 4. The 5" one is light and the 4" one is very dark. I don't know why the smaller one is a different shade, because they eat the same things and they are in the same tank. They have been in the same tank for about 4 months now. Why is this i was thinking because of genes. Anyone else?

there are difference color bases for bichirs.

for me, when it comes to my Senegalus Sp. Congo, i have a regular senegal and a light based senegal (the belly is alot lighter than my normal one and the sides/top is a lighter shade of grey.)

also, substrate can also affect the color of bichirs too

lol lol! The color is based on the substrate. Darker substrate, darker bichir. Lighter substrate, lighter colored bichir. That's pretty much it.

the thing is i have had them in the same tank with the same substrate

Of my 3 ropefish which also share the same tank, 2 are an olive colour while one is like almost blueish.. It just varies from fish to fish. It also can not be sexual dimorphism because the olive coloured fish are m and f and the darker one is f.
