some of the pics of silvers that i see the fish seem to have no color other then silver. not that this is bad but mine has alot of orange and pink in fins and a touch of blue sheen on body. is this just that pics dont get all color or do i have a weak colored black aro? also i dont remember any color on it when i got him. only had him for 5 months.

you know color can be genetics or there is one study that shows that poor water quality can bring out the oranges and pinks in the skin but dont worry as your aro gets older it will start to lose its color and be all silver but dont worry it takes a long time before they get to that stage mine big guy is almost 3 1/2 years old and he still has some pink and orange

My silver @ 24". They can retain their color for a long time if you feed them right :grinyes:

ME TOO!!!!

I'm still holding my breath but at almost 19" mine has no d.e. and the same color you described. He was plain silver when I got him. I have raised him since sept. at the guidance of everyone here at MFK, his water is clean, parameters good, and he looked a little different as a baby than these very pointy nosed silver baby pics I see. Got a pic? How old? You can go look at mine in the gallery, I just posted pics recently.

alot of the coloring has to do with the feeding regiment but some of it has to do with the individual fish genetics. this first aro I had was very red and stayed that way. the second had absolutly no color when I bought him but after 6months of feeding krill it colored up nicly but not anything like the first.

if i recall it was oddball that said that nitrite causes renhancing of the red colors, and that it takes weeks to fade away, and leave the fishes body.

BUT DONT YOU BE DOING THAT!!! thats life threatning to the fish

and not all arowana have strong color, its based more on environmental factors. in the wild you dont see very many silvers with red color.

ey rottbo, mine is starting to loose her pinks in her tail and she's almost 4 years old, color enhancers and shrimp jsut wont fix it. however she is taking on the most lusterous silver in her scales ;)

its just genetics, consider yourselves lucky for having nicely colored silvers. some people get the drab, dull ones. but, after a few years all will be a normal, huge, wondrously silver monster......

Yeah...

Like most fish...if the parents are nice etc...the offspring will be nice.
