Hey everyone, I'm a little new to keeping plants. I've read the lighting sticky but the question I still have is this. What color spectrum bulbs should I use? I know plants use the red and blue wavelengths. I am currently using 1 coralife colormax T5HO bulb which has rather high spikes in both red and blue wavelengths. My other bulb is a 6500k. Will this pair work effectively or is there something else I should use?

I've also thought of replacing my 6500K bulb with a 10,000K bulb. Would this be better or will 2 6700Ks be best? Is there a chart or something I can look at that shows the wavelengths pants use best?

6500-6700k is perfect for plants. How many bulbs you will need depends on the size/depth of the tank and types of plants you plan to keep.

Also, if you use high light, you may need to use fertilizers and pressurized co2/SeaChem Excel so you don't end up with a bunch of algae.

Okay, I'll replace the colormax with my other 6500K. On a side note, you mentioned pressurized co2 and SeaChem Excel. Is that an either or thing or do I need to use them together? I currently do not have a co2 system but I can get the SeaChem Excel easily.
