Got a GSP about a week ago, was nice and bright green, deep black spots, now his black spots have sort of faded to a grayish color, and his green has faded/dulled out some. His Figure 8 and Knight Goby tank mates seem fine.

Tested the water, everything checks out; Nitrate is at 0 ppm, Nitrite is at 0 ppm, PH maxes out right at 7.6, but does not register in the High Range PH test. Ammonia was a little high, around 0.50 ppm, but I did a water change and gravel vac, should I do a few more? I don’t over feed, I did find a dead snail that rolled up under a lava rock though, could this have caused it?

If it is the ammonia, why was only the GSP affected, and not the Figure 8 or Knight Goby?

Thanks..

Proper diet makes pretty fish. I feed variety of everything to my Africans n there r gorgeous. I have had fish from other people n they look dull, a week or so on my diet they brighten up look beautiful n sparkling.

Could be something to do with the SG their in? also, if you are mixing F8's and a GSP together, then just as a heads up, F8's require very light brackish, where as a GSP will eventually need a much higher SG which is almost at Marine conditions...

In other words, in the long run, i would advise against keeping those two together since they technically need two different types of water parameters to really thrive...

If you are showing ammonia & no nitrate, your tank is cycling. How did you cycle the tank & how large is it?
