Doesn't the coloration of a fish depend on their mood?? If so, why are my fish so light?? Are they sick?

Do you happen to have light colored sand/ gravel?

Only my dp are light. They get darker when they know I am going to feed them. It's not really light, i mean you can still see their spots. The female is lighter than the males but I know that is a characteristic of the males.

I have a light colored substrate; play sand actually and most notably my Oscar changes when he gets spooked or food is coming. I have a bumblebee cichlid who never had a color change until I added an Electric Yellow and now he is this bad *** almost black with yellow stripes. A lil' tiger!!

BTW - I bought a Jewel cichlid because of the deep red color in the LFS tank. I got it home and it was like a cream color until I focused on Spirulina for a good part of its diet and now it's back to the deep red or even deeper than what I remember buying it as.

I heard a lot about the Spirulina. My soon to be father in law uses it with his fish. Doesn't it just come in dry foods? I definately have spoiled my fish with mostly frozen. All my dp's eat is frozen bloodworms and they are the ones that are really light. I dunno what to do. I'm at a loss. Anyone???

First..... use a balanced diet. Veggies & Meats. I feed beefheart, spirulina, shrimp, and flake. But I swear the spirulina and shrimp work wonders. I'd try those two for sure.

I tried feeding them krill before and they didnt eat it. As soon as i put bloodoworms in the tank they ate right away. Maybe I should just keep trying??? My sunburst eat flake also. It's my dp's that i'm worried about.

I buy those precooked tiny shrimp from the fish counter. Wash them really well, cut them up into tiny pieces and feed by hand just a little at a time and see who eats it. Eventually, all the tank mates found out it was good and eat the shrimp, even my herbivores.

Spirulina can be bought as a powder or flake.

I actually made my own frozen food. I bought these little 1/2" ice cube trays. 90 cubes in 2 trays. I cut up the shrimp, add some spirulina flake into each cube, add bottled water and freeze the cubes. They are small enough to be a single bite for most of the fish. Homemade and costs me about the same as store bought, but I know what went into them.

seriously i want to go to the store right now to get some stuff to make food. its 11pm here...haha

GOOD IDEAAAAA
