yea, all of them had the same patch. however, one out of them was almost completely white with the same red patch of course. so being that they all had the same red patch.. eh.. idk what to believe. what do you think?

if it had only been one out of the batch then I'd think it was more possible to be some kind of rare coloration, but seeing as they all had the red patch then that's further evidence to me that they're some kind of flowerhorn.

Would'nt the obvious answer be to call the wholesaler? You could have your answer in 2 seconds...or a bunch of gobbledygook. 50/50 shot.

I'd trust a wholesaler only a tiny bit more than some random person I met on the street. ;) wholesalers mislabel fish all the time, both intentionally and unintentionally. granted, there are some wholesalers out there who know what they're doing and care more about the fish they sell than the money they make but they are few and far between.

:iagree: exactly. i couldn't have said it better myself. thanks jason. as far as th flower horn idea.. well. i guess we'll see when they get a little bigger. muahahaha. :grinyes:

i talked to the wholeseller today and asked why they were labeled as "colored" red devils and she said because the were a little older and had developed their color. she reminded me that they are brownish colored when they are smaller. i then asked her about the red patches on their side and she had no clue as to why they have that. supposedly they are "pure bred" fish though. jason, i think the flower horn idea is valid, but the more and more i look at the flowerhorns, i don't see any of their patterns in my devils. time to start over. lol.

there are hundreds (maybe even more like thousands) of different types of flowerhorns. the ones I was talking about that look like a midas/red devil but have that red patch are sometimes called a Golden trimacu or just Golden flowerhorn. Here's one for auction on aquabid...check out the pic. :)

wow. that does look like my red devil, but i think there really is a difference. my devils are way more orange. but wow dude, thats a nice job of you to notice that similarity. :clap

btw... we got in some more on friday and they all had the same red patches on them also, only some even had red lining on their fins!!! :WHOA:

having red in the fins is another trait of most flowerhorns. I'd say the wholesaler is getting them from someplace that breeds midas/red devils to flowerhorns, and these are the low grade rejects. by low grade reject I simply mean rejected by the breeder for not containing the traits they were breeding for. :)
