Hi all,

I have a question and am hoping someone can give me some advice.

I purchased some zoanthids online and received them today. The colors of the purple areas of the zoanthids are brown/red in color and not purple. I know that the lighting makes a difference, seller has much better lighting than I do, but I do have some purple mushrooms that I have had for a few weeks that really look PURPLE no where near brown in color.

This is my first coral purchase online, and not sure if coloring can be somewhat off due to acclimation or if they will color up. All look amazingly healthy and 95% of them are open already just shortly after adding them to the aquarium.

Does lighting make THAT much of a difference?? Currently have Coralife power compact fluo. 2 65W and 2 65 acintics. (I am upgrading my lighting soon, trying to decide between MH and LED.)

Ohhhh
Ph 8.3
Calcium 420
temp 77
Nitrate 0
nitrite 0
ammonium 0
phosphates 0
kh 161.1
Thanks,

Sue

Its a debate........we live in AZ......and electric bills and added heat from MH......have my hubby looking seriously at the LED's.

there are few LEDs that can subsitute for MH or even T5s, but if your worried about heat, but want more light go for an 80W T5 setup, more light and if its a quality hood like ATI, Blau, or Gueisemann then they will have fans built in to keep them cool (ATI for sure, not 100% on the others). MH is not the only option in shallower aquaria.

well lighting can have many effects on coral and appearance. most likely the zoanthids you bought were under MH at 14000K and had T-5 actinics which gave the deep color lighiting will have an effect on your corals color.
