Genes, lots based on the genes...I'm pretty sure you know all about what color enhancing foods work...Krill and Hikari Bio-Gold pellets....Keep it varied....(1-2)25% water changes per week and beefing the temp up to 81-83 degrees will make him grow out more....75g and up is recommended for a single showcase...These fish are number 1 on my "owner responsive" list...Since January of this year, I've raised a 2inch male to 9inches in a 33g...Yes, the tank footprint is like most asian flowerhorn setups overseas, but I do plan on upgrading him to his own 100g soon....

Dude, its genetics, like everyone said on the other forum. If you have a yellow he'll grow into a nice yellow adult. Just keep up on the water changes and mad color enhancing food. To be honest, I'd go with a 50% weekly due to your tank size.

Genetics will give you a group of fish that have a tendency to look better than some others. That wouldn't explain why when a mediocre colored fish is fed high levels of beta carotene OR placed in sunshine over a few weeks the color intensifies. I'm not in the "better life through chemistry" group but HGH will give you a bigger kid.

Use the freshest foods with the highest levels of carotene. Buy the better brands and then get their best. For example, Hikari- buy the bags with no viewing window., the better foods come in a bag light doesn't penetrate. Don't buy monster sized bags of food OR at least, place some in a container that you can tightly close and FREEZE the remainder, filling your feeding can as needed. Refridgerating the food will promote fungus and mold in the food.

black gravel/background can help.
hikari gold seemed to influence color also. (switched from staple at 3")
and yeah genetics.

My reddevil keeps picking at the reddevil and i doubt it could kill my fish because i think and kn ow and could hold its own.Im starting to feed it shrimp and i noticeed in the last couple days that the colors are standing out.

I disagree. You can't turn a yellow red devil brick red. You can make it a nicer or brighter "yellow" and maybe get it a bit orange.

Now, if this "yellow" red devil is just washed out, stressed, and malnurished, sure you might be able to get him "red", if he is genetically programed for it.

What you are explaining is a fish not living up to its nature. I'm assuming the OP does not have a brick red based red devil.
