okay so I am a little more than half way through an epic weekend of partying and snakes so here is a status report:
I was not planning on getting much unless I saw a nice king cobra for sale but the only ones there were about double what I have seen ones twice that size go for. And they were intergrades so I did not go for those. I did however end up with the following:
2 small 6" cube terrariums for some of my inverts
a pair of tailless whip scorpions (one of them is gravid)
a pair of hexarmor gloves (there is a story to these below)
and a gaboon viper complete with a hotbox and new cage (for free)
and of course a nasty hangover and what is sure to be another one tomorrow.
Okay so that gaboon is not technically mine but I have a friend that is about to be deployed but he wants to work on his venomous hours. I told him he could buy a gaboon and keep it at my place and come over anytime to take care of it an get his hours for his permit and I would watch it while he is in Afghanistan and then he could finish his hours when he gets back and take his snake home then. But for all intents and purposes it is my snake until he gets his permit, he will just be paying for its food and I will be teaching him how to work with it properly.
The Hexarmor gloves I bought at the USARK auction for a steal of a deal ($40). I was shocked to get them since I thought people would outbid me and I was not planning on going over $50 for them because I generally do not like gloves. Anyways, a quick youtube search of "venom defender" gloves will reveal people coaxing everything from monster O.hannah's to fat Bitis to bite these gloves while peoples hands are in them. I conducted my own using the sharp end of a safety pin and was astounded at how easily it slid through several parts of he glove and pricked my hand beneath. GLOVES SHOULD NOT BE USED TO HOLD VENOMOUS SNAKES.
~end rant~
anyways, enjoy the pictures.
