I have 2 columbian sharks at about 9". One of them (the fatter one)has began digging in the gravel in the area where they like to hang out. It literally does a head stand and pushes into the gravel chewing at the gravel and spitting some out through the gills. A depression is beginning to form there. I have had them for about 2 1/2 years and this is the first time I have seen them do this. I was looking around on the internet and there doesn't seem to be much available on Columbian shark behavior... Anybody know what's going on?

Possible they are building a nest, maybe they are gonna spawn. Ive had these before but never were successful with them. Too bad, they are pretty cool. But yeah, it sounds like they are building a nest. Could be wrong though.

That's what I was hoping, but just didn't think it could be possible. The spot is kinda out in the open. I was just wondering if anybody else had seen this before...

Is there any other tank mates? Its possible because sometimes people get lucky and happent o have a male and female, and after soem time they may actually mate together. Maybe since you've had them at a consistent water condition and fed them well, it all made it possible.

From the description, it sounds alot like they are spawning. But I am not 100% sure, jsut keep an eye on them and watch and see if anything happens. Maybe post a pic if possible.
