I bought a columbian shark cat today, that's what it was labelled as, and I want to know the scientific name.

It's very silvery and metallic, like a medium silver and kind of matt.

Big pointy dorsal fin, and black barbels. Also white edges to it's pectoral fins.

Apparently grows to around 2 foot.

Anyone know the catfish I;m talking about?

yes very common if u want to see pics of em big look in delgados gallery hes got two large ones

looks similar but I don't think that is it. Face looks slightly different and mine has a much taller dorsal fin, pointy with black edges.

I see them all the time, under various names. Like Silver shark, Silver Tip Shark, Silver Columbian shark, Jordans catfish, an Columbian shark.

great fish, nothing like a cat that doesnt lay around like a lump waiting for food.

i know what u mean these cats cant stop moving for 5 seconds

And they also grow and move to brackish and eventually full marine waters as they age.

Hope you're ready for that move!

It used to be the Arius seemani but is now listed as Hexanematichthys jordani, (I think the other was just to easy to spell), It reaches over 14" and needs salt or heavy brackish when adult.
