I know these catfishes are brackish water fish and when they get older, they need to have more salt in their tanks. Younger fish can tolerate being in freshwater only. But I heard that several people from experience have kept these catifshes in pure freshwater for years without any problems. What do you think? Personal experience will help also because I already read what is in the internet.

I have two in a 75g, 8in and 5in. The oldest is around 2+ years and the other almost a year old. I started adding salt during the summer (june) because the other 5 inch one had died from a skin disease which is caused by salt-less water.

But keeping them for years in Freshwater is mostly luck.

they can live in freshwater their whole life, but they dont do a well as ones that slowly migrate to full saltwater. they will be happier and healther introducing more salt as they get older. Scats are similar as they start in fresh or brackish and slowly go to full saltwater.

They can if you are VERY lucky, most of the time they won't make it past a couple years.
