You could keep ONE in a 4 ft tank but they prefer schools. They are brackish fish and they will need salt in their aquarium. They only get to 24" tops but thats very rare to occur in an aquarium as they usually reach only 1' in an aquarium. But they would not do well with rtc or giant gouramis as they require a full salt water tank when older and as they grow. Also they are pretty slow growers and the rtc would probably eat it as they are also very skinny catfish compared to some "larger" catfish

you said they were slow, how slow growing do you mean, could i keep one in a 3ft for 6 months, before putting it in a 4ft, then 6 months later, a 5ft, jus talking hypothetically here :L

yes that would work with one colombian but no more than that. They are slow growers compared to my south/central american cichlids. But they are relatively calm growers usually growing at no more than an inch a month.

well mine was only slow growing as i believe i stunted his growth by keeping him in a small tank so that he wasnt a snack.Dont do this though.
He is now in a 55 gallon. :nono:
