hey guys im new here, got directed here by a different forum i have an unstocked 125 gallon that i want to put 1 of these teacups in but i have a few questions 1st.

what do they eat, how fast do they grow, and what fish can i put with them

i have searched google alot but im not finding anything very useful

to start "teacup" is just a saying for any juvenile ray and could be of many variaties but usually pertains to potamotrygon reticulata
I currently have one right now and it is eating pretty much anything I put in the tank, but it started off eating just earth worms
mine has grown about 1.5" in diameter since I got him in October
generally rays are best kept alone because they prey on other fish or will get stressed by others, I have mine with a clown knife, bichirs, nicaraguan cichlids, and a florida gar
and read the stickies here and you will learn quite a bit

You can get nearly all the information you need from the stickies. First things first though the smallest of all freshwater rays will still need a bigger tank than a 125 eventually. I have a few "teacups" that are between the 11-15 inch disk diameter not including tails. So take the term "teacup" very loosely they do not stay small for long! In a 125 you can't have many if any tank mates with a ray as the bio load from a ray is very heavy at any size and filtration has to be much more than a standard fish only tank. Read all the stickies at the top of the stingray forum and if you still have any questions please feel free to ask. We try and be a nice forum but occasionally us ray owners have a tendency to go over the top on protecting these animals and can get pretty uppity. All of us here just want what is best for all rays and hate seeing people get in way over their heads then come crying for help after we tried warning them from the beginning. Buying a ray is a huge investment you need a big tank, massive water changes, high quality food and an abundance of it, and time to dedicate to them. Have fun reading the stickies :)

actually im gonna wait on the stingray until i move into the new house and get that 220 gallon ive been wantingthanks for the heads up guys
