Column tanks?

I'll start off by saying, for the first time EVER, my wife has not only agreed to but has requested TWO additional tanks! In our living room! I recently repaired/resiliconed a large hex tank and my wife fell in love I guess! She's decided she wants something similar on either side of our fireplace. I looked up prices on hex tanks and they seem ridiculous$$$ for the horrible footprint they offer, so I'm thinking about building some relatively tall column-ish tanks(rectangular). Just looking for some preliminary tips and suggestions.

Just be sure to use properly sized glass and a good silicone, not GEI or II. You'll want to use RTV103 or 108. Past that, should be the same as any other build. How tall were you thinking about going?

Was thinking possibly 18x18x36 but not sure if I wanna be shoulder deep for cleaning.

That tank will be a huge pain in the butt to clean. Due to it not being very long you wont have to worry about it bowing much, but you will still need decently thick glass. It'll be a very expensive tank for how small it is. Just something to consider!
