My 10" Tigrinus has been infected with columnaris since last Friday from me netting him out on Wednesday. I slowly added salt on Friday, working it up to approx 1 Tablespoon per 4 gallons. I lowered the temp to 79 degrees and the tank is well aerated. Since then a lot of the fuzzy patches are gone from the open sores on the whiskers/body and healing up quickly. However, under the jaw and gills was larger fuzzy patch that has decreased significantly but hasn't completely gone away. I realize this is probably due to the oxygen rich area of the gills. Other fishes aren't affected.

I don't want to use other medications if possible.

Should I change the water? (I changed my routine 50% last Wednesday)Add more salt? Or the combination of the two?

Thanks.

keep the salt levels where they are and change 50% of the water every few days until it heals. This means you have to add salt at each water change

As long as the water parameters are ok then it should heal up in a few weeks.

Which specific meds? I was planning on changing 50% of the water, adding back the salt in the process. I'll try this for 6 more days, then I'll look to other options such as meds. The tig is eating, swimming around, healing fast.... but just waiting for the remaining amount of "fuzz" to disapper from under the jaw/gills. Thanks.

Do you have photos of the affected areas? If you have access to microscope, do a skin scrape, get magnification images and post them. I am intrigued by your case. Sodium chloride helps treat for saprolegnia but not Flexibacter columnaris.
