I know quetions like this must have been asked before, but i just can't seem to find the answer.

I have a silver aro (it's in my little pic on the left there, see?) and i quite like the way he looks swimming around and thinking of maybe getting more when my pond is done. I know when it comes to silvers it's either 1 or three+ as 2 just doesn't work, but does the same apply if 1 black aro is thrown into the mix? To illustrate, which of these combinations would likely work?:

1Silver (works)
3Silvers (works)
2Silvers (soon only have 1!)
so,
1Silver + 1Black = 2arowanas total but would they fight?
2Silvers + 1Black = 3arowanas total but would the 2 silvers fight?
3Silvers + 1Black = 4arowanas ............ can't see a problem here but that's starting to be quite a lot of arowanas there.

Any advice guys?

it all depends on the indvidual fish...i have seen 2 silvers just fine and others fight to the death...it ends up being an expencive trial and error...i have seen them mixed before also

Until you try the mix, you just won't know. Currently I have two 28" silvers and a 20" black together with now issues. The silvers have been together for 2.5 years and the black was just recently added to the mix.

At one point when one of the silvers was 15" and the black was about 11" I tried to mix but it failed back then. Best bet is just to make sure you have a way to separate the aros if things don't work.

Thanks guys (love the avatar Bderick67)

If i found a black and it got picked on then it could go in my big tank so i might try giving it a go............just gotta finish the pond now then.

theres many factors like the individual fish itself and the space and if they are well fed and stuff i would try but just get ready in case it fails

sorry for your loss
