Hi, I am new to MFK and am setting up some freshwater aquariums once again after many years. I am particularly interested in setting up a 180 gallon tank with only SA Cichlids and several sets (6-8 of each kind) of cories. Do the more peacefiul SA Cichlids, such as Geophagus and Gymnogeophagus as well as rams get along with one another? The Geophagus are my favorite of all fish. Are there any types of Geophagus that cannot be peacefully put together? Will the Cories be all right? What about Severums? l have looked up the different types but it is hard to find much having to do with combining them. I would definitely have at least 4 of each type of Geophagus and plenty of weighted down live plants and hiding places. Maybe I would need to consider a larger set up?

In a 180g I'd suggest going for a group of 6-10 of a single species rather than a mix of different species of eartheater. Geophagus and Gymnogeophagus will have different temperature requirements and I wouldn't recommend mixing them. You could keep them with other SA species like uaru, severum, festivum, angels, discus etc. Some geophagus will get big enough to eat smaller corys though, so do some research on the max size of the species you're interested in...
