Combining tanks?

Hello,

I have a 55 gallon tank and would like to set up another. The way the stand is designed allows for two 55 gallons on it and I was wondering if I could combine the two with a PVC overflow as if the bottom tank was a sump?

The filters (HOB) would be on the bottom tank and the heaters on the top just due to the types of fish in each. I'd obviously have a return pump.

With enough turnover and proper maintenance do you think it would work?

Yes you could do this. You are simply making a 55 gal with a 55 gal sump.

Exactly my thinking! I just wasn't totally sure as believe it or not I've never had a sump on any of my tanks.
