I want to combine my 9 inch V. Argentea, 9 inch V. Breidohri and 5 inch H. Bocourti in a 100 gallon tank. Anyone see this working out? Are these 3 fish too much for a 100 gallon tank and will they even work together.

It depends on the individuals` personality. And probably even more important, the sex of the fish & how many playmates they`ve been kept with previously.HTH.......Keith

If you ever do it....please post pics... ;)

yeah, id try it out. in fact I was think of trying it out so let me know what happens

are you as scared to try it as i am? My vieja's are stunning but i'm thinking the only reason they are is because i keep them seperated. lol. Anyway i think i'm going to give it a try on saturday so i can be here all day to watch them. First signs of a fight and i'm going to put them back in there own tanks. :)

Well fish can take quite a bit of abuse. And just think how nice of a tank that will be if it works out. And that would be cool if u got some interbreeding.

just a couple things to think about before mixing them...it's much more difficult to mix matured cichlids and getting them to accept new tankmates as opposed to juveniles of the same species. I think if you were to have started out with those 3 species as juveniles and grown them up together you'd have a much better chance of them getting along. now that they are all matured (with the possible exception of the bocourti), they may not be very tolerant of new tankmates.

also, I've read from numerous people who have kept them that argentea is a very aggressive species. I don't know anything about breidorhi but I do know that bocourti is considered to be a "gentle giant" so there's the possibility the weaker bocourti could be bullied badly. on the other hand having a "gentle giant" may be better than having another equally aggressive species. if the bocourti never puts up a fight and stays out of the way, then maybe the argentea will leave it alone. not sure a 100 gallon would give enough space for him to get away should the argentea be overly territorial though.

I'm not trying to persuade you either way, just wanted to give you a couple things to consider before making the final decision.

not scared but just needing the tank size to keep 4+ in there together. The lfs just got 1pr and a solo male in, forgot what kinds, but the males are 12-14" and the female is 10". Big and Beautiful.
Im also with chad as I also would like to mix them to see how much wilder the colors and patterns can get.
Agree with Jason too on the age an aggression factor. might want to get 2 dividers and split em up for a week or so to see if they try to attack through them.

My idea was/is to get them small, mainly cause they cheaper but also for them to grow together.
