Forgive me for seeming like a noob. I'm just getting into african cichlids and was wondering if someone could give me an easy answer on this combo I was considering for my 55g:

2 - Blue Johani's
3 - Cobalt Blue Zebras
2 - Electric Yellows
2 - Red Peacocks
3 - Acei's

I have seen some 55g cookie-cutter combos but have found it hard to obtain certain fish. I can order these above all at once around the same size.

Thanks in advance,
Joe

loose the peacocks and the johani, and you should be good, peacocks cant really go with mbuna, and if i recall correctly johani are very aggressive

Thanks for the advice!

Can anyone give me suggestions on a few other types I could replace the Johani's or Red Peacocks with, for similar coloration? I'm going for a nice color spectrum and wanted to get a nice mix.

A few others I could get are:
Tretocephalus
Red Zebra
Bumblebee
Demasoni
Kenyi

FYI, they're all going in a 55g with 2 AC 70's for filtration, with 60lbs of Caribsea Moon Sand & about 60 lbs of super clean Texas Holey Rock with a ton of hiding places.

Thanks,
Joe

def not kenyi, very aggressive. johanni are fine, my boyfriend has one and he's the least aggressive in his tank.
i personally like red zebras, and they do well with the yellow labs. demasoni are pretty and mellow.

ya kenyi are a bad idea and the bumblebee will out grow a 55, i agree with zebras and labs

Thanks again for the advice/suggestions everyone, I think I'm going to go with something like this:

2 - Blue Johani's or Demasoni's
3 - Cobalt Blue Zebras
3 - Electric Yellows
3 - Red Zebras
2 - Acei's

yer johanni's are very aggresive i keep one in a 150gal tank and it is very aggresive.

i would say that was the best list as trets are tanganyikan and get 6inch so pretty big also as with most tangs it is a wimp with malawi's and will get beaten up by the others, even though in with brichrdi its super aggresive to all but the breeding pair in the tank

Cool, looking forward to getting the mix.

I can't choose male/female preference when ordering, will I be ok no matter what gender I get with these?

I just ordered some Eco complete cichlid sand to replace my fine white I have in the tank already. The fine white Caribsea sand has done a number on my AC's, never again will I use it, way too fine.

i personally think you'd be fine with a johanni provided you only have one. I have one a little over 4 inches that I keep with zebras, a yellow lab, 2 fuscos, and an m. exasperatus, and his aggression is dispersed enough that none of the other fish take a beating....and he's got the sickest colors in the tank!

yep i can't deny they have beasty colours mine started of orange with black horizontal stripes now it has an electric kind of blue with black stripes

very very nice colours
