A while back I ot a pair of F0 Costa Rican convicts from Polomax24, i bred them and I would like to get them out into the hobby. I have about 50 1/4-1/2 inch fry. You are welcome to pick up a few for free. These are very nice. The males get a high yellow with rosy tails, and good luck sexing the females because the bellies aren't pink or orange at all, even in breeding dress! Their bellies are pitch black. i don't have pictures but if Gary would like to post them from when he had them that would be awesome. Another curious thing on these guys is the growth rate which is absolutely phenomenal. At one and a half month old they are twice the size of my 3 month old regular convict fry! those are just feeders but these aren't. get some while you can. I'm in Los Angeles.

It's because they are not convicts (nigrofasiatus) but Cryptoheros (Amatitlania) siquia, all the convict type fish have been reclassifed. Costa rican fish are now A. siquia, Keep them pure and don't cross them with domestic convicts. Ken

If they happen to cross with a common are they in affect "ruined"? Or can they be put back together and the fry still F1? Free bump and I would LOVE to see picks!

It's a pretty safe bet that the fish that we knew and loved as "convicts" before the revision are now Amatitlania hybrids. If you did indeed cross WC's F1 A. siquia with your "convicts" you wouldn't be necessarily "ruining" an already hybrid fish.
That said keep the A. siquia lines clean.

You can see our A. siquia here: http://www.monsterfishkeepers.com/forums/showthread.php?t=101266&page=5

We got ours the same place Gary got his. They're gorgeous fish and I can attest to the amazing rate at which the fry grow.

Thanks StraightJacket!

These are the same ones. I am in no rush to get rid of these. I will only hand them over to people committed to keeping the bloodline pure. I refuse to take them to the LFS. I am in Eagle Rock which is in between Glendale and Pasadena. These are F1 babies... Growing like true little monsters. You'll never see fry from this species/type growing this fast. I don't think it's a coincidence that every one of the specimens collected from this region hit the 6 inch mark with some hitting 8 inches!
