coming to america

ok heres the deal.
later in the year i had a 3 week trip planned to come to the US and stay in Williamsburg VA for a few days then go fishing in the mountains at my families cabin then take a trip down south driving to florida for a while then fly back to Williamsburg for a few days then come home with maybe a stop off to NY and Washinton somewhere in there too.
it looks like i can only manage 2 weeks and my family will probably be in the UK when i want to come so i want some ideas of where to go in the US.
i want to know the attractions in your area that would make me want to visit.
ive been to LA and Vegas before but would go to LA again but i am sure they are plenty other places to visit and they dont have to be fish related as my G/F will be coming.
its going to be around september possibly october time.
so post away.

Not in September or October though. We rarely get snow before Halloween any more..

Oh I missed the September part. I was referring more to now. But its not impossible for us to not get snow in October.

I agree. Lots of free stuff to see like the Smithsonian, Air & Space Museum, National Zoo, The National Gallery of Art, etc....

If you want to see wilderness-type stuff, try the Northwest. From San Francisco to Portland is a great road trip - Redwoods, the Rogue River, head East for some high desert, then through the Cascades to Portland. September's weather in Oregon is darn near perfect, in my opinion.
