hey guys especially the american contingent, as it says in the title next saturday me and my girlfriend are going to florida for 2 weeks on our summer vacation and we cant wait. we are planning to do the whole theme park thing which will be cool but i thought while we are there we have got to sample anything aquatic that florida has to offer.

so

hit me with places i have to visit while im out there

obviously we will be hitting sea world

but im looking more for any cool shops exhibitions aquariums showcasing all your native fish etc

hit me with any ideas you have guys they would be much appreciated.

about an hour drive north of Orlando (just east of a town called Ocala) is a place called silver springs. its a florida nature park. they have glass bottom boats and showcase almost all of central florida's wildlife. It's where the old TV show "Tarzan" was filmed. There are ferrel (not native, of course) monkeys. I haven't been there in over 10 years, so I'm sure its improved since I was there last.

Here's a link: http://www.silversprings.com/

Its a pretty cool park. there were quite a few international tourists there when I visited, but its mostly a local crowd.

I agree with pcfriedrich, Silver Springs is very cool. If you get to South Florida, visit Big Als Aquarium Supercenter. Everything you could imagine for aquariums are there plus some very cool exhibits! Down in the Keys (Southern tip of Florida) there are a ton of boat tours that explore some awesome fish areas.

Sea World is primarily marine, but it also has several freshwater exhibits. I say it is primarily marine solely because it's main exhibits and shows are of marine animals. Go and visit the various Florida tourism webpages. You will find a ton of information on there as well. Is there any particular part of Florida that you will be visiting or will not be visiting? That would help us narrow things down a bit.

Agree try to get some fishing in for at least 1 day..

catch yourself some P bass!
