Hi all been keeping freshwater rays for nearly 3 years now but my son as asked for a nemo fish . I have a little 20gal tank spare he can use.
My question is about water changes ,i do %50 every week on my ray tank straight from tap !! never add a issure . So if i did the same in a bucket mixed my salt mix and put a air stone in bucket to mix for 48 hours then add to salt water tank would that be ok .... I have been told RO water is a must for salt water but i was also told that with rays please advise thanks ....

RO is not a must...if you have a fairly good idea of whats in your water, you may be A-Okay to go right now. I would recommend getting your h2o tested.

If quality is good and you are just on city water, use a dechlorinator, and aerate like you suggested for 24-48 hours. Then mix your salt.

Phosphate, nitrates, heavy metals...all need to be tested for.

Clowns are pretty durable, so I am going to guess that your water is fine now the way it is.

IMO RO isn't a must unless you're gonna have some sensitive coral. Clownfishes are tough as hell and should be more than fine

Thanks for that just the clown with 10kg live rock maybe a cleaner shrimp .. If all goes well I will make my 100 gal kray fish tank into salt too .. My ray tank would be to much of a step ..

Sweet. Post some pictures, stay in touch for trouble shooting. Most importantly, start to read like crazy. Buying a couple books is a must, and have the kid read them.

I started keeping reef at the age of 12...and there was a lot of reading involved. To be honest I did pretty much everything myself. My dad and brother helped me set it up, and my brother helped here and there to begin with, but after that it was all me.

Wet web media is also a good online source of information.
