Thing is, I got him already grown-up, he won't eat the Hikari Food Sticks I bought for him.
I gut-load small tilapias with the sticks and feed him. I am scared to starve him to eat the food sticks.
Tilapias have spines on their dorsal fins though and sometimes he chokes on them, hence my interest for another readily available food source I can have where I live, the carp.
^+1 my mate killed five snakeheads doing this exact thing , chose to ignore my advise at the time and fed them anyway , didn't even try and quarantine them either :banghead: two days later they were all dead
I agree use fresh foods shrimp , muscles , chopped fillets , he'll eat eventually survival kicks in before they starve to death

I agree , he'll eat before he starves. In my experience even WC's will convert over to chopped foods or even pellets. I have a few who actually prefer pellets to shrimp or other meaty foods. Just hold out and let it go hungry , they can go a very long time between meals without any ill effect. If it were me i'd just offer pellets or shrimp or whatever u want him eating once a week. If he doesjt eat it over night remove it and wait a week.eventually he'll be begging for food, Unless it starts loosing weight i would just keep waiting once a week until it gives in. I doibt it'll take more then a week or 2 though.
They also LOVE insects which is much safer and healthier then feeder fish. So if you have that odd one who really just wont convert with starving alone then start with insects bet it'll go nuts for bugs and will start nailing them the second they hit the water. Once it starts nailing bugs floating on the surface
simply start to ad bits of chopped food or pellets they'll nail it so fast that they wont even realize it.
All my channa feed on a mix of pellets and meal worms.
