Hello

I've been in the hobby for about a year and had a common Gar for a year as well. For most of the year, that Gar was fine, he was mostly chilling at the bottom at all time but now, he's acting dead! he can breathe and still manage to use his fins but isn't "strong" enough to get moving.

I tried feeding him, he managed to take some food, i was feeding him daily after all. The other fishes in the tank never bothered him and he does not as well. He was fine yesterday.

Should post pics and some water parameters to get some help. Tankmates? Size of tank? Etc etc.

Water Parameters : i don't have a kit to test. But never had a bad water problem.

Aeration is complex, there's airstones about everywhere

The fish you have will produce a lot of waste. How do u know don't have or had bad water? Especially if you don't have a kit. Sounds a little strange to me but when fish are sick the first suspect has to be water. Not trying to emphasize you don't know what ur doing.

Could be aggression from the oscar. It can be territorial.

Could be injury from swimming into the glass/acrylic tank. 85g is small for all inhabitants if planning to cont to keep together.

Ur photo shows the gills exposed and look a little funny. Tail end looks pale or burned but I cant tell. Can't make it out when the I tap on the pic.

Just some things I see. Suggest a large wc asap and consider getting a test kit and using it.

The gar pictured is very thin, has not been feeding properly for a long time. It also looks as though it's fins have been bitten off. There is clearly aggression issues at play. Either separate the hat from the other fish or rehome it.
