Common/Playground Sand safe for a Pleco?

Hey everyone,

Planning out a new tank for my big pleco and wanted to know if I can use regular playground sand in it. He's like a vacuum cleaner and I don't want him getting hurt. I've got black Tahitian Moon sand in the current tank, but would like a lighter color for the new tank.

Hello; The best practice I ever came across with bulk sand is to dry sift it first thing. By that I mean get or make a screen sieve. You can get rid of the very fine powder part that way. The remainder will still need a good rinse in buckets but dry sifting should make the rinsing easier.
