Hey guys,

So I have a 13" common pleco ( Pterygoplichthys pardalis) and recently iv noticed him doing something weird. Now in my experience and according to articles iv read, common plecos tend to be docile. Now the peculiar behaviour Iv noticed mine doing lately is that hes actually pushing around a 7" jaguar cichlid. Like the pleco will just snap like that and basically chase the jag in the tank until he gets bored and goes back to his log. The plecos normal spot is behind a ship i have and the jag hangs there sometimes too, but it seems as though he sometimes wants it to himself. The funny part is the jag doesnt retaliate at all, he just gets chased and gummed at by the pleco.

Anybody else ever have a case like this?

Most big growing plecos can be very aggressive commons are known to bully other fish )not just other bottom dwellers) and not allow them near their territory or even eat food.

I have one the same size in a 180 that both gives and takes it from the huge cichlid (22-23") he's in with. They push each other around quite a bit.

I also have a 24" pleco in with 3 pacu and 2 oscars (540 gallon tank) that is very peaceful.
