Common pleco question

Where does the common brown pleco (with leopard-like pattern) found in most fish stores originate in the world?

Originally from the Amazon. But now from Florida or SE asian fish farms.

That I am not sure. The typical brown one you find in all of the commercial pet stores like petsmart. I have a primarily south american tank but wasn't sure about the pleco. So far the only one in my tank NOT from south america then would be Julio my male convict. And maybe my huge snail.
