I purchased Hikari algae wafers for my pleco and i've never seen him eat them, im awake late at night when he's active and i dont think he can find them, he's never on the ground, he only attaches himself to the walls and decorations. any ideas?
Just keep at it, the pleco will eventually take them as food. In the meantime, remove anything that isn't eaten as it will create extra nitrates. Also, try some fresh zucchinni.
yeah it says on the back of the bag to remove it after 2 hours so i do. but i've put 1 in a night for the past week and he hasnt eaten them. but he's been in there alive for about 2 1/2 weeks and is fine, he has to be eating something
I believe that some fish take longer to adjust to new foods than others. As long as the pleco is showing normal behavior I wouldn't worry about him starving to death. I assume that you have other fish in the tank and feed them things other than algae waffers, he could be eating that along with any algae on the glass and decorations.
BTW, I purchased 2 new plecos a few months back. They ate all visible algae in the tank and ignored the waffers. Eventually I stated to notice them tanking the waffers as well.
