I found a 14 inch snapping turtle in a bayou i put it back but it was a smalll bayou and i wanted to keep it so i was wondering how i would be able to keep it outside in my backyard? If i could seem some pictures of peoples outdoors setups it would really help.I was thinking of buying a kiddie pool and digging a pit in my yard so it fits and fill it with water then make a wooden fence that would be the turtles borders. and have some large stones and a large piece of wood for it to bask in and the tree next to the pool would be the shade

When I was a kid I found a baby snapper sitting outside on our front porch at the cottage, its shell was probably 3" across max. I took him home with me and he lived in a large tote container with my painted turtle in my basement. So he lived in the same kind of setup you would keep any other turtle in. Eventually I gave him to our neighbours at the cottage (they live there year round). As far as I know they did something similar to what you are planning. They have lots of property with a small stream that connects to the lake running through their back ysrd. So I think they just fenced him in so he has some territory of his own.

Ya snappers are amazing climbers! I've seen one climb my 6' chain link fence to get into my pool lol I was like wtf is that thing and I just see it fall straight down and just slide into my pool. I was so shocked but this is supposodely very common with snappers

you should not take the turtle! you should leave it where you found it.
i guarantee you someones gonna eat it if i dont take it
and thanks yall for the help what if i dug the pit deeper and put like a liner around it actually just how deep should his swimming area be and i was thinking 4' by 4' would be a good size. The area might be larger depends on the kiddie pool size i want him to have space to walk and swim

Your right it would likely have been eaten. Reminds me, last week i opened my apt door and there was a 7 inch red ear slider just sitting in front of the door.
