my most recent project is setting up a nice community tank for my rays and i have ended up with 2 discus( soon to get more ) a dat, a large clown loach, marble cat, and my 2 male n female motoro, and female hystrix.... any one have a similar batch ? pics please i will soon post mine.

im sorry to say the discus will be food as the rays get bigger

Long term I think clown loaches and rays are a bad idea along with the discus. Discus are calmer fish and with the rays and loaches whizzing around the tank, the discus are probably going to stay in hiding. Clown loaches have a tendency to pester rays and rays have a tendency to try and eat them.

i have had this set up for a decent amount of time. my discus are very aggreesive for discus of course and they almost swim around the surface of the tank when im feeding. and my one large clown louch isn't to active i think its cause its just him... like the lone soldier he is only active when feeding time. and my rays agent fish eaters i always feed them prepared foods. and they are almost scared to try to take one of the fish down. they were checking out the louch when i had first put him in and they swam over him like he was food. but as soon as he started to move around they got scared n never showed interest again. same with the dat n the marble cat. the discus they never showed any interest in at all. so im not to worried.

as long as the discus are large once the rays get large it *usually* isn't a problem. Although some have had a discus turn into a snack so there is always the chance. Myself and a few other people keep rays and discus together without problem. My advice is keep them together as long as you wont feel like it is the end of the world if you lose a hundred dollar fish. Personally my discus aren't stressed by the rays at all, in fact they lay eggs constantly in the community tank. I see that as a sign that they are pretty darn comfortable. I don't know about keeping a dat with discus though.

I would however worry about a clown loach. I would worry because you may loose BOTH the loach and the ray if the ray decided to eat it because the loach has the spikes that pop out for protection that could hook in the rays mouth/throat and eventually kill it. I think there was a thread about this happening a while back.

=( i might have to take the louch out i geuss cause i dnt mind him getting eatin but the ray dien from it F*** that.... yeah my dicus dnt seamed stressed at all. n i have had them for long enough to tell if they r stressed. n yes they are both 5 inch. want to get more. i would love for fastcarsnbigfishies to post pics. n great job on having them breed in the tank what kind r they ? wild ? i am looking to maybe add some wild discus to the batch

all different strains, none wild. I am horrible at taking pictures of them but here is a video I took once while they were laying eggs

WoW bro great pic. i will post some pics up as soon as a find my camera. how many discus do u have in total ? is that the 180 ?

whats ya filtration ? and do the discus successfully hatch the eggs ?

It is a 180, I am in the process of finding a larger tank to move everyone into but they are hard to come by around my area so I may just have to buy a new one. There are 9 discus in there and I am growing out another 7 juvies to put in their once they are bigger. I have a fx5 and rena canister. The eggs do not successfully hatch. They hardly ever do in any type of community tank and the water is too hard as well but I plan on taking a pair out down the road into a smaller tank and trying to breed them with ro/tap mix, Right now my main focus is finding a larger tank since my rays are getting larger by the day and the female may possibly be pregnant (fingers crossed)
Oh and I think that reflection is from the tv, thats not me lol.
