HOT Water
Well I am somewhat new to keeping tangs cichlids and I have a 185gl tank set up for them, I have read that for comps and calvus that you should do 50% water changes once a week and on some other sits 15-20% water changes once a week, due to the comps and calvus have no tolerance to water parameter changes for you that keep these fish, what do you for you water changes. and I would like to know what some of the members do to remove the carline from their water due you use chemicals carbon before you put your water in your tank I have had a lot of clown knifes and I would use a declorinator before I put the new water in.I am a little worried b/c the fish I will be getting are only 1in in size and I would hate to have any die offs from something like this

and on top of all the ?? I would love to see some of your comp and calvus pic thanks mike

IME with calvus and comps I treat them like the rest of the fish in tank. Do a water change of about 40% once a week. I also over filter all of my tanks though.

If you do a water change a week and that keeps your levels where they should be, then you have no need to change it.

I use Seachem Prime with my tap water. This works well for me and removes all the impurities.

They should be fine for you even at 1", I find them to be pretty hardy and have never had one die on me. Just be prepared to wait a veeeeeeery long time for them to grow.

I have had no problems w/my Comps. I change 20-40% weekly, just trying to match temps. and add Stress Coat for chlroine/chloramines removal. You might want to grow out those guys in a 55 or 75. A 185 may be a little hard too see if your fish are getting enough food. A great long term home, just maybe not right now.

I change 25% of my water monthly and use Sea Chem products exclusively. No issues. Some tangs ex: (Buescheri) don't like a lot of water changes. Like Qwest I over filter / understock all of my aquariums.

I just recently started keeping calvus. I bought five. One died within a dy of being released from the bag. The other four have grow dramaticall in the last few weeks with 50% + water changes. I just always try to keep the temp close, and of course use water conditioner.
