We've got a tank with 4 rope eels, a plec and an Arius Jordani, all still juvenile (going to get a second Arius somewhere this week, looks like it's feeling quite lonely). We've decided to make it a 'nocturnal', or at least dimmed light tank.
Currently, the Valisneria Gigantea and the Bacopa Monnieri are growing over the entire survace.

Now, all of these fish live at the bottom of our tank. So we're trying to find a tank mate. The requirements:

- Lives solitary or in couples, not groups.
- min. big enough not to fit in the mouths of the eels or the arius, max. 15-20 cm.
- not agressive
- prefers dimmed light and plants at the surface
- lives in the middle or top area of the tank

I know, it's a lot of criteria, but help would be welcome :D

Thank you!
Kat

I was doubting about that, since their scientific name's so different. Didn't quite know where to put this, so...

They are in a diffrrent genus but the closest relatives of bichirs. P. Mokelmbembe and rope fish are more similar than upper and lower jar bichirs to one another.

Hello all!

I prefer to keep my ropefish with other ropefish ;)

I have 13 of them in my 3' tank...

I put lots of rocks and driftwood, but the tank looks empty except during feeding time!

OMG! They've trained me into feeding them just to see them!!! :D

tried that combo... it ended up with a tankful of fat butterflies and skinny ropes... :(

I'd add some disc like tetras to my tank though... It kinda looks bare when there's no food in the tank...

How!?!? What were you feeding??? My ropes eat massivore and cut up nightcrawlers. Butterfly fish eat at the top.....not a difficult problem to solve....
