well, we will be moving to a house later this year, but i need to figure out the fish i want to have so i know how big of a basement i want. i plan on building TWO side by side 300 gallon plywood tanks. here is a list of the fish i would like to have in each tank. if anyone thinks they should be in bigger tanks let me know, or if the fish are not completely compatible, please let me know. thanks in advance.

Tank 1: Alligator Gar, Green Terror Cichlid, Orange Pike Cichlid, Albino Tiger Oscar, Tiger Oscar, Electric Blue Jack Dempsey, Peacock Bass, Ashara Catfish

Tank 2: 4 Albino Tin Foil Barbs, 6 Bala Sharks, Flagtail Prochilodus, 5 Red Hook Silver Dollars, Green Severum, Gold Severum, 3 Blood Parrot Cichlids, 6 Clown Loaches, Royal Pleco, Blue-Eyed Red Bruno Pleco

the alligator gar is too big. other than that, It might work, although I'm not sure about the Pbass with the smaller cichlids. I would do one with arowana, P bass, and oscars.

For tank two, lose the blood parrots. They are too ugly and will ruin the entire look. Also, get like a dozen or more clown loaches. They will look a lot better that way, and there is plenty of space.

i totally agree!

Also the p.bass would end up eating ur electric blue JD fer sure...

I was thinking the same as Opiate....

The PBass will grow much faster than the EBJD, making him a snack. Alli, to big for that set-up.

2 side by side 300 g's.. you could do more with 600 gallons.. ^^ like having very happy p-bass and a very happy aro, and there are better looking gars that would love it in a 600 tank =) and if you are lucky you might even get away with cheaper filtration wich compensates for the thickness of the glass/acrylic.

thanks for the feedback. so how big of a tank will be needed for a Green Terror Cichlid, Orange Pike Cichlid, Electric Blue Jack Dempsey, and Ashara Catfish? what else could be put with this group? if i did one with a Black Arowana, Peacock Bass, Albino Tiger Oscar, Tiger Oscar, what other fish could go with them? what kind of gars? how many of each fish? should the catfish go with these guys or the first group? if i build a 600 gallon, i will need a place for the other community tank. another note, the blood parrots were the only fish chosen by the girlfriend, so they have to be in there. so how big of a tank would i need for the tank 2 list?

if i was you i'd just get them built to the biggest you can then decide....

because i know i plan to get bigger tanks and only 20% of the time the plan goes ahead

well, this plan is definitely going ahead, i just wanted to do some research on the kinds of fish i want to put together to determine how big of a tank they will need, that way the fish are as happy as possible.
