Hi guys,

I am considering getting a P. Endlicheri.

While it will eventually be housed in a 6footer with Silver Aro and Gars, it is currently only 6 inches and needs to be put in a "grow-out" tank first.

My grow-out tank has a few Channa. sp. Assam (3-4 inch) which I don't think will be very comfortable with a 6 inch Endlicheri.

Can I keep the Endlicheri in a Malawi (Haps+Peacock) tank as a "grow-out"? (The Endlicheri is 6 inch, the Malawi's are between 4 and 5 inches.)

Please advise,
Sid

This is a tricky comb in my opinon, i personly have not kept polys with malawi , but i have read some where its been done before, with the malawi's the run the risk of the malawi's fin nipping the poly/damaging it. On the other hand if the malawi's are not big enough they could be eaten by the poly.

i would put the poly in and watch them and see if there is any aggression, if the poly get nipped and picked on take him.

The Endlicheri is actually more than 8 inches, so the Malawi Cichlids will definitely be "food".. After Quarantine, I will directly put him in the tank with the Silver Aro and Gars.

Thanks guys,
Sid

how big are the gar and arow?

Silver Aro is close to 18 inches. But this particular specimen is very very docile. I have raised him from 4 inches and he has never been fed feeder fish. I had even put Ranchu and Gourami in his tank (temporarily) when I had no place to keep them. He does not hurt any tank-mate.

The Gars are about 1 feet each.. (2 are FL gars and 2 are Gator Gars). The FL gars are also pretty mild and the Endli seems too big to be harmed by them.

It is the larger 13 inch Gator Gar that I am a bit worried about... In any case, both the Gator gars are to be sold pretty soon, so this should not be a long-term problem.

Cheers,
Sid
