Hi, im new to fish, and i was wondering if my fish were compatible with each other.

I have a 55 gallon

i have:
11 - demasoni cichlids (1.5~3 in)
5 - acei cichlids (2 in)
3 - congo tetra (3.5 in)
1 - jack dempsey (5 in)
1 - golden jack dempsey (4 in)
1 - clown knife (5 in)
1 - common pleco (5 in)

planning to add some yellow labs (labidochromis caeruleus), snowflake cichlids (pseudotropheus socolofi), red zebras (metriaclima estherae) and zebra cichlids (Nimbochromis venustus)

i have alot of rocks and hiding spots and a few plastic plants.

thanks!
alooooha!

Honesty your tank sounds pretty over stocked as it is. Even when keeping mbuna I never went more than 20 in a 55 gallon and that was with 2 huge canister filters. Also Venustus get to large for a 55 gallon.
The 2 Dempseys alone stock a 55 gallon as well. The congo tetra s will not last long with the mbuna and I worry the clownknife will be stressed. The mix really doesn't work when you consider water parameters preferences and dietary needs. The pleco, if it's a common, will out grow your tank as well as the knife. I think you need to seriously reconsider your stock and either rehome your fish or get a larger tank for the ones that need it.

right now, the tetras are bigger than the mbuna. so they dont really bother. do you think i should rehome the dempseys and the knife? and i guess i can wait a little longer for the pleco to get bigger before i rehome.

wooo that's a heavy stock! compatibility might only be hindered by aggression due to lack of "personal space" lol.

i personally love the overstocked look :P
i have two penguin 400's and an undergravel running so the filtration is pretty good.
im just asking about compatibility.
thanks for your feedback

Gotcha, well like I said in my last post, keep your eye on aggression levels is all haha.

so all of them will adapt just fine with the high ph for the mbuna and everything ?

just wanna make sure my fish arent miserable.

thanks alot smpage. your alot of help

They will adapt to the Ph but watch out for dietary differences. Too much meaty food can cause mbuna to bloat and die.

^thanks blue

right now, im feeding them Dainichi Color FX, Hikari Cichlid Excel, and Hikari Algae Wafers (for the pleco) but it seems that the other fish like it too.

What fish eat what? and are any of them just meat eaters? i'm probably going to take them out.

thanks for your help!
aloha!

You are overstocked. But the african will have problems, they need a lot of vegetable matter in their diet. The common pleco will most likely grow out of the tank. Honestly in that size tank I would only keep the two JD's. They get to 8" to 10". That would be your max. You will also have aggression problems, JD's as they mature get very aggressive.
