I have what I believe is a -male- Jaguar Cichlid. I know it's a Jag, just trying to confirm it's a male.

I have been debating getting another one, and adding it to the tank.

The Jag I have is 9-10", and is very VERY timid. A 4" Oscar pretty much took over the tank awhile back to the point I had to get rid of the Oscar.

The tank is a 125, it holds 4 bichirs, a rtxtsn, and a striped raph catfish- and the Jag.

I am thinking of adding another, about 4". I am pretty sure the specimen I am interested in is a Male- I know that it really all depends on what that fish's aggression level is, but would it be more fitting for 2 males to potentially get along, or a M/F pair?

Bump...

Anyone?

That looks like a male, appears to have a purple tint and that pattern is usually in males. You can try added another and see how he reacts. Sometimes mates can bring out the absolute monster in a fish. Just keep an eye and if it gets back, have a divider or some kind of back up plan in place.

But would you recommend a male, or female?

I have put yellow labs in the tank as feeders, and he tries to be their best friend, and protect them from the ornate bichir I have.

Would you recommend one his size, or smaller?

I would definitely recommend a male and female over 2 males in a 125. With a male and female, assuming they get along, will only require one territory for the both of them. If you have two males then they're each going to want their own territory and a 125 just does not provide enough room for 2 male jags to establish territory.

smaller female is my best choice
by the what do you feed it?
i just now bought a juvenile pair from my friend
i have to divide them to prevent injury.
if you add another one give lot of hiding places, else there will be a fight
